The crunch of a Gibson Guitar through a 1970s Marshall amp, urgent and sweaty grooves, melodic lyrics belted out with the ferocity of a white-hot blowtorch. It’s all been done before, right? – but Carousel Vertigo puts forth the abandon of this era as if you were really at the Winterland, say, sometime in the summer of 1973 or ‘74. It’s a new playlist, but one that has the authentic power to transport any Neo-Classic rock fan back to that golden age when rock was king.
Fronted by vocalist/guitarist Vincent Martinez - who is a star in the making - Vinnie just knows how to "light it up" with vocals that are reminiscent of a young Paul Rodgers from his Free days. But Vincent can also hit the overdrive button and bring the fury of a Humble Pie era Steve Marriott or Bon Scott, when called upon. Coupled with his vocal prowess, when one experiences how this fret master juggles his axe on stage, you are instantly aware that Johnny Winter invades this young man's soul. Call it blues shred or whatever; – the guy simply takes the blues approach to rock guitar to jaw-dropping heights.
Partner in crime, producer/guitarist Jansen Press supports it all with just the right amount of contrast, anchoring each twist and turn with deftness and attitude. The foil is perfect, his vision spot on. Proper rock. Mick Taylor to Keith Richards, Brad Whitford to Joe Perry, Steven Clark to Phil Collen. You get the picture…
With the release of their self-titled EP in 2009, the press stated that Carousel Vertigo play as if they had created the 1970s hard rock genre, and now they are poised to affirm this with the release of their first full-length album, “MIGHTY”. Recorded in Paris, France, and mixed in Boca Raton, Florida, USA, by Keith Rose (Aerosmith, Coverdale/Page), this incendiary 10-song set is guaranteed to appeal to guitar-based rock fans and includes tracks co-written by Vincent and Jansen - as well as a collaboration with Status Quo bassman, John “Rhino” Edwards.
The Band shared the stage with Quo on multiple dates as their special guests during the recent "Pictures Exposed" and "Quid Pro Quo" world tours. Needless to say, this exposure helped to establish a Carousel Vertigo following both in the UK, as well as in Europe. “Opening for Rock Legends Status Quo was a bit daunting. Their fans know what rock ‘n roll is, and they are quite a discerning bunch”, says guitarist Press. “But after every show they would come over to our booth to buy our CDs and T-shirts, saying that we were the best support act they had ever seen with Quo. We strive to bring that type of impact to every performance we play.”
Carousel Vertigo firmly places itself as a progenitor to the apparent rise of the '70's hard rock movement currently trending in Europe with the release of “MIGHTY” and are audibly, a band on the verge of a breakthrough.
